A digital hourglass. Turn it over and your phone goes into focus; in the break that follows, only the apps you picked will open.

Why it exists

A focus timer on your phone lives inside the device that distracts you. Grained takes the time out and makes it physical: you turn the hourglass over, focus starts, and a break follows on its own.

The difference is in that break. Your phone doesn’t open up completely, only for the apps you picked, so a break doesn’t turn into half an hour of scrolling. A new block only starts when you turn it over again.

Where it stands

The prototype works: an ESP32 with a screen that draws the hourglass, a sensor that knows which way up it is, Bluetooth to the real app and NFC stickers that act as a key.

The next step is a finished prototype based on the current renders, with a custom circuit board. In the meantime, the waitlist is open on the site.
